The Magic House will open a summer satellite location in North County later this month featuring the popular Kings, Queens and Castles exhibit. Through a partnership with The Magic House, the Ritenour School District and the World Chess Hall of Fame, families in the North County area won't have to travel far to enjoy the hands-on fun.
Designed for children ages 3 to 11, Kings, Queens and Castles brings the game of chess to life and provides an engaging introduction to individual chess pieces and game strategy. At the exhibit, kids can explore a medieval castle complete with a drawbridge and turret slides, learn how to prepare for a game by arranging large-scale pieces on a giant chessboard floor, use their creativity to design a royal crown or a knight's sheild and even dress up like their favorite chess pieces to play a human chess game.
The exhibit will be located at the City of St. John Municipal Center (8944 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Louis, MO 63114), from June 12 through August 11. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
If your kids are looking to improve their chess skills, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis will offer summer camps on the same floor as the Kings, Queens and Castles exhibit. Week-long, half-day chess camps will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. at a cost of $30 per child per week for either the morning or afternoon session.
