Getting Through The Kids' Shows

Like any mom, I’ve joined my children on the floor to catch up on their favorite kids’ shows.

There are some I really like. I think The Backyardigans is adorable. Yo Gabba Gabba is a lot of fun. And I admit, I have Imagination Movers’ “Shakeable You” on my iPod – and I’ve listened to it at work. A lot.

However, a mom can only take so much of kids’ shows – even if she likes them - before she goes nuts. That’s when my mind starts wandering, and I start editorializing the shows in my head. I try to keep my comments to myself ever since I blurted out, “Hey, Sharpay has a new nose!” when we were watching High School Musical 2, and now my child asks, “Why does Sharpay have a new nose?” at every subsequent viewing.

Since I don’t think my 3-year-old is reading this blog, I think it’s safe for me to throw out the things that stick in my head when I’m watching my children’s shows.

Max and Ruby – Dang, Ruby, why ya gotta be such a killjoy? Let Max play for goodness’ sake – he’s a little boy, er, bunny. I got your back, Max. You go play in that mud puddle, my brother.

LazyTown – The puppets on LazyTown scare me. We’re planning to take the little P’s to the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando this summer, and if one of those characters runs up to me, I swear to you, I will roll up into a ball and cry right there in the lobby.

Chuggington – So, on this new show…Chuggington – chugger chugger chugger chugger chugger chugger chugger chugger chugger Chuggington … sorry, that song sticks in my head the entire day and stops me from concentrating on anything else.

Imagination Movers – This is for Scott. Yo, Scott. I do really like your show. Want to know a secret? My mommy friends and I debate about which one of you is the super cutest, much like the moms before us debated about The Wiggles. Would you mind cutting your hair for me, though? I keep thinking you’re going to pull out a whiteboard and show me what brown can do for me.

Handy Manny – I really want to know how much money Wilmer Valderrama pulls in for the voiceover and licensing. Is it like That '70s Show dollars? In addition, Mr. P is concerned Manny is taking political correctness one step too far considering he uses both a flathead screwdriver and a Phillips head screwdriver on the same project. That’s not real.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – Mickey Mouse reminds me a little too much of Michael Jackson.

I know there are moms out there who have also come up with little mind games to be able to bear any kids’ show. So fill me in – what great mysteries have risen from watching your kids’ shows?

In the meantime, I’m going to snatch the kids away from the T.V. and take them outside to enjoy this amazing weather.
