Since 1992, The College School's Early Childhood Program has been inspired by the educational approach of the renowned preschool programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The College School's program is known nationally and internationally as a result of our own particular application of the Reggio Approach. We have combined The College School's dynamic experiential program with the Reggio philosophy's strong history of exploration of the many languages of young children and careful documentation of children's thinking.
Each day, the Early Childhood Program holds many possibilities for creating, expressing ideas and working together. Walk into our preschool, and you will observe children interacting in small and large groups as they express themselves in a hundred languages, including dialogue, music, dance, construction, art, drama, cooking, science, and math. Teachers regularly document the children's work and ideas through photography, videotape, displays and writing, as they strive to support each child's capabilities and potential to the fullest extent. Hop into spring by bringing your family for a fun breakfast with the Bunny and other costumed characters at the Saint Louis Zoo. Guests can pose for photos with the bunny, and children 12 and under receive a gift from the bunny's gift basket. Reservations are required.
Hop on down the bunny trail and fill your basket with fun! Eckert’s Annual Egg Hunt includes animals for petting, tractor rides around the farm, planting seeds to take home, ice a cookie, gifts from the bunny, and a free photo scene with the Easter Bunny.
Take your family to watch birds of prey fly right over your head, macaws speak the English language and much more at the WOW! Amazing Animal Show at the World Bird Sanctuary. Every program showcases different animals so each day is a new experience.
Visit the James S. McDonnell Planetarium in Forest Park and see a star show to experience the largest artificial sky in the Western Hemisphere. Star shows are lead LIVE by one of the Planetarium's educators, creating a new and tailored experience for every audience.
Families are invited to the Saint Louis Art Museum on Sunday afternoon to participate in free hands-on art activities with fun themes and to explore the galleries. Each Family Sunday focuses on a different family-friendly theme.
