Help Feed Hungry Kids This Holiday Season (And Get $1 Kids' Meals too)

After weeks of nonstop holiday cooking and cookie making, the last thing you want to do on Dec. 26th is fire up the oven. Take a break from the kitchen and the leftovers by feeding your hungry brood at your local Goodcents Deli Fresh Subs – and at the same time, you’ll help feed kids across the St. Louis region and beyond.

On Dec. 26th, your little ones can get a kids’ meal, featuring Goodcents’ new Rainbow Bread, for just $1. All kids’ meal proceeds from the day will be donated directly to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, the national initiative to end child hunger by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need, every day. It’s a simple way to keep the spirit of giving this holiday season going an extra day.

Remarked Scott Ford, president and COO of Goodcents, “At Goodcents we take pride in our fresh ingredients and freshly baked bread. Because 1 in 5 kids in America don't get the food they need to be healthy, we knew we wanted to focus our efforts on children and partner with No Kid Hungry to give back and do our part to help end childhood hunger. The problem really takes a toll on a child's health and development. Having the ability to eat fresh, nutritious foods makes an incredible impact on our communities.”

The epidemic of childhood hunger in the U.S. is staggering. According to No Kid Hungry, 13 million kids struggle with hunger every day, and 3 out of 4 teachers say they have students who come to school hungry.

No Kid Hungry helps by assisting families with its Cooking Matters program, which shows parents how to cook healthy meals and stretch their food budget, providing breakfasts at underserved schools, and giving kids free food during the summer months. Every $1 donation from Goodcents goes a long way – just $1 can provide a child with up to 10 healthy meals.

Brightening their menu and a child’s day

The No Kid Hungry drive on Dec. 26th is your kids’ chance to be among the first to try Goodcents’ Rainbow Bread. Developed by Goodcents, this blue, green, purple, and pink-colored bread tastes just like traditional white bread, but offers a new way kids can enjoy their favorite sandwiches.

The Rainbow Bread sandwiches come in three options – Turkey and Cheese, Ham and Cheese, and Peanut Butter and Jelly – and all kids’ meals include a choice of apple slices, cookie or chips, and a kid’s drink including milk, juice or a fountain drink.

“We wanted to create something unique that delivers a new experience for kids that makes them smile,” said Ford. “The initial response to our taste testing has been incredible, and we can’t wait to see the response from kids and families throughout all of our restaurants.”

While the Rainbow Bread kids’ meals are already on the menu, the $1 special is available only on Monday, Dec. 26. at Goodcents nationwide, including seven locations in the St. Louis area. To find your local Goodcents, visit www.goodcentssubs.com.
