Meet the Builders of the Gateway Arch

Commemorate the 49th anniversary of the completion of the Gateway Arch at the Meet the Builders event. The National Park Service, along with the Jefferson National Parks Association invites the public to meet the builders of the Gateway Arch in the 1960s.

From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Arch's iron workers, electricians, sheet-metal workers, draftsmen, field engineers and x-ray technicians will greet guests and sign autographs. The builders will share personal stories and rarely see personal memorabilia and photographs chronicling their experience in constructing architect Eero Saarinen's unique vision.

The "Arch Perspective" exhibit will be on display, which showcases photos of the Arch through the years. There will also be screenings of the award-winning documentary Monument to the Dream throughout the day. National Park Rangers will be on site offering special activities related to the construction and history of the Arch.

At the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park. The event is free.

The Missouri History Museum celebrates education and family learning with History Exploration Days! One Friday per month from September to May, homeschool families with kids of all ages can explore a different historical topic—together! All activities are FREE. Explore St. Louis history in new and exciting ways through interactive guided gallery tours, hands-on workshops, and community performances that align with each month’s theme, encouraging investigation, exploration, and creative fun. Activities are offered at various times throughout the day and are customized for specific grade-level groups.

Storytelling takes place in the morning, and all ages are welcome. Visit the craft room for fun learning experiences, with museum educators available to help learners participate in meaningful ways. Topics this school year include colonial St. Louis, baseball, Black history, and wildlife. Detailed schedules for each day will be posted to the Museum’s website.
