It would be hard to find a city more enthusiastic about celebrating Halloween family-style than St. Louis. New parents across the metro area quickly learn to secure costumes early in October so their kids (and in some cases dogs too!) can take advantage of all the family-friendly Halloween events happening in the spookiest month. Whether you're looking for trick-or-treating, Trunk or Treat events, parades, parties, story telling or jamborees, you'll find it in our ultimate list of St. Louis Halloween events. For convenience, we've listed events by date. And, please note, some events require pre-registration or advance tickets. Are you ready for some not-so-scary, St. Louis-style Halloween fun?

Friday, October 13:

Party in the Patch at Shaw Park. Celebrate fall with a candy hunt, hay rides, a bounce house, carnival games and more at this Halloween party sponsored by the city of Clayton. A hot dog dinner is included. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is recommended, and the cost is $8 for kids 14 and under in advance and $10 on the day of the event. More information at claytonmo.gov

Halloween Art Workshop for Kids. Kids can get creative with spooky crafts, popcorn and cider at this drop-off art workshop. You can enjoy an evening out while your kids are making a "BOO" door or wall hanger. All materials are supplied, including lots of goodies! 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Yucandu Art Studio in Webster Groves. $45 per child includes everything. For kids in 1st through 5th grades. Rec or Treat. Explore the Renaud Spirit Center for Halloween treats, and lots of fun activities, like slime making, crafts, games, balloon artists, inflatables and prizes. You can also meet Toy Story's Woody and Jessie! Then, enjoy a free screening of the Halloween movie Toy Story of Terror. Bring your swimsuits for free open swim. The BOOterfly House: Bewitching Bugs and Botanicals. The Butterfly House becomes The BOOterfly House this October to celebrate all things creepy and crawly. Kids can spy on spectacular spiders, enjoy daily story times with Miss Muffet and see Live Carnivorous Plant feedings. Meet new frightful friends in the Scorpion's Lair, watch out for Botanicals Gone Mad in the Conservatory and spy on spectacular spiders with Little Miss Muffet! The BOOterfly House activities are happening during October (Tuesdays through Sundays) at The Butterfly House in Faust Park. Story time with Miss Muffet happens daily at 10 a.m. Live Carnivorous Plant Feedings are held at 1 p.m. The Butterfly House is closed on Mondays. Great Pumpkin Jamboree Weekend. Celebrate the fall season jamboree-style at YMCA Trout Lodge. Enjoy picking pumpkin carving, hayrides, live music and square-dancing, pumpkin carving, carnival games, sweet treats cooked over an open fire, and breath-taking fall foliage. It's a great opportunity to climb the 50-foot tower and view the glorious colors from up high, or to take the colors in on a horseback ride. Families can enjoy all the fun activities at YMCA Trout Lodge at this fun weekend getaway. Rates include lodging, meals and many activities. Kids 0-5 stay free! October 13-15 or 20-22. Halloween at Grant's Farm. Get into the Halloween spirit with some spooky fun and celebrate with the animals at Grant's Farm. Enjoy Halloween-themed shows, a DJ in the Bauernhof courtyard, lights, decorations and dark Deer Park rides. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The parking lot opens at 5:45 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights to search for animals during the dark Deer Park rides. Eat and Treat. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of eats from more than a dozen local food trucks and treats for kids, including Halloween bags and trick-or-treating. There will also be live music, photo opportunities, and appearances from Fredbird and Louie the St. Louis Blues mascot. Proceeds benefit Maryville University's Kids Rock Cancer, an innovative program that helps children successfully cope with the unique challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis through the power of music therapy. Fall Festival at Longview Farm Park. Celebrate fall at one of St. Louis County's most beautiful parks. Kids can take a guided horse ride around the park with the help of Equine Assisted Therapy, along with the Bubble Bus, game booths, and arts & crafts. Families are encouraged to wear their costumes! There will also be local food trucks, local brews and a fall photo backdrop to save your memories. Free. 4 to 7 p.m. at Longview Farm Park. More information: town-and-country.org

Pumpkin Jamboree at Eckerts. Ride the wagons out to the pumpkin patch to search for your great pumpkin, even one up to 150 pounds! You can also enjoy wagon rides, country music, live entertainment, pony rides, petting farm, children’s activities, make-your-own scarecrow, funnel cakes and festival foods. Treat Street. Children 12 and under can participate in trick or treating, pumpkin decorating, face painting, a Halloween photo op, fun music and more at Town and Country Crossing. Boo at the Zoo Nights. Explore the St. Louis Zoo after dark during special Boo at the Zoo Nights. This non-scary celebration is designed just for kids, and costumes are encouraged! Enjoy the Zoo's decorated grounds, the Haunted Hallow, the new Witchy Walk welcoming little monsters, giant webs, a haunted house with a singing witch, the Fragile Forest Fairyland, the mystery straw maze and lots more. Kids can also make Halloween-themed, creepy crafts in the Lakeside Cafe, enjoy interactive fireside stories and ride the Conservation Carousel. Visit the 4D Theater for a showing of "Happy Family 4D," a tale of a family adventure that unassumingly goes to a theme park but ends up getting transformed into mystical monsters! Children 12 and under will receive a treat bag upon exiting. Parking is free in the south lot only. Hours are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. Admission is $6 for Zoo members, $7 for non-members. Friday, October 20:

Not-So-Haunted House at The Magic House. It's the Not-So-Haunted House that is oh-so-fun! Kids of all ages are invited to dress in their most "boo-tiful" Halloween costumes and have a ghoulishly good time trick-or-treating at The Magic House and getting autographs from their favorite storybook characters. This year's Halloween event will include a special visit from more than 15 storybook characters from favorite children's tales such as The Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and more. Each child attending the Not-So-Haunted House event will receive a trick-or-treat bag and an autograph book for the not-so-spooky characters to sign as they trick-or-treat throughout four levels of the more than 100-year-old Not-So-Haunted House. This is a candy-free celebration. The Not-So-Haunted House will be held during regular museum hours: Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Not-So-Haunted House is included with admission. Terror at Tower Grove Park. Have fun at the not-so-scary Terror in Tower Grove Park Halloween festival for all ages. Terror in Tower Grove Park includes live music, food trucks, candy for the kids, art projects by ArtScope, a costume contest, parade, a Halloween movie, s'mores and lots more. Costumes are encouraged for everyone for this ghoulishly good time! The event is free but donations are accepted to support the park. 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. More information: towergrovepark.com

Haunted Hayloft at Purina Farms. The annual Haunted Hayloft at Purina Farms is a St. Louis family favorite. This not-so-scary event includes a costume contest, storytelling, trick-or-treating, canine performances, adoptable dogs, magic shows and all the fun of the farm. Reservations are required. Kids up to age 12 are invited to participate in the costume contest at the Incredible Dog Arena for a chance to win a $25 Purina Farms gift card! Haunted Hayloft will be held over two weekends, Oct. 20-22 and Oct. 27-29. Admission is free, but reservations are required. No walk-ups will be accepted. Reservations are available from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays (property closes at 9 p.m.); and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays (property closes at 7:30 p.m.). Howl & Prowl. Join in on the free family fun at Howl & Prowl, with Halloween activities for all ages including a costume parade and contest. Bring your kids to the Kids Corner (4-6:30 p.m.) where there will be a photo booth, games, prizes and more. The Kiddie Costume Parade and Contest will begin at 6 p.m. For teens and adults, there will be Open Mic performances featuring music and comedy acts, improv and poetry. The spookier the better! Shaw Family Adventures: Pumpkin Prowl. Get hands-on with nature as you and your kids learn all about pumpkins at Shaw Nature Reserve. You'll learn how plants and animals stay cool in the summer heat. Families will play games, hear stories, hike to find hidden pumpkins and decorate pumpkins to take home. 9:30 to 11 a.m. Cost is $7 per child/adult pair for members of the Missouri Botanical Farden and $9 for non-members. Manchester Halloween Festival. Dress up your kids in their favorite Halloween costumes and take them to Manchester's non-scary, family friendly Halloween Festival in Schroeder Park. You'll enjoy games, pumpkins, face painting, hayrides, a costume contest and lots more. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Everyone age 2 and older must have a ticket. Trunk or Treat for Kids and Dogs. Bring your kids and your dog to the Purina Farms Trunk or Treat! In addition to plenty of treats for your two-legged and four-legged little ones, there will be face-painting, games, and balloon animals. Trunk or Treat is open to kids ages 12 and under. Admission is $5 per child for ages 3-12. Age 2 and under are free. Dogs are $5. Parking is free. All tickets must be pre-purchased. All dogs must be well-behaved, up-to-date on vaccinations with a visible rabies tag, be on a leash and at least four months old. Hayride Hoedown. Join in on the Hayride Hoedown for all ages, where guests will experience a 45-minute wagon ride through the park, a light dinner, s'mores, and a performance by kid-favorite Babaloo. Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade. The best-dressed pooches in the region will strut their stuff for one of the biggest Halloween kickoff events in the St. Louis area. The 3rd annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade is a morning of fun for every member of your family. The event is hosted by Project Restore, an Edwardsville organization dedicated to addressing education, clean water, and medical care issues in developing countries. The Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade includes raffles, giveaways and other family activities. It's free to watch the parade, and a $20 donation is suggested to enter your pup into the parade/costume contest. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the parade begins at 11 a.m. in Joe Glik Park in Edwardsville. Dogs must remain leashed, have current vaccination tags and wear ID tags at all times. Haunted Hayrides and Trunk or Treat in Valley Park. There is something for the whole family at the Valley Park Halloween Haunted Hayride and Trunk or Treat. GPS Trick or Treat at Babler State Park. WILD Family Fun Days are bringing on the spooky family fun at the GPS Trick or Treat. Families will work together with a GPS unit to find trick or treat locations around the Babler Outdoor Education Center. There will be candy and prizes at each location. One GPS unit and instructions will be provided for each family so no previous experience is necessary. Grab your costumes and get ready for an adventure at this one-of-a-kind family event! The Healthy History-Lovin' Halloween Party. Bring your kids to the Missouri History Museum for this movin' and groovin' Halloween party! Kids can go trick-or-treating in the galleries and learn fun facts along the way. There will be kiddie calisthenics at each stop (where kids can earn prizes), and kids can shake, spin, swirl and twirl along to some great Halloween tunes in the disco dance party room. A spooktacular 30-minute yoga class will be offered twice throughout the evening. 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Yoga adventures are led by Sara Clem of Salveo Yoga. You'll explore the history of St. Louis and have some Halloween fun exploring movement through yoga poses, partner poses, music and yoga games. Open to all ages and abilities. Science Spooktacular at the Saint Louis Science Center. Science gets spooky at the Saint Louis Science Center's annual Halloween party! Bring your little ghouls, goblins, astronauts and dinosaurs to this Halloween event for hands-on, spell-binding science. You can even get spooked in the Haunted Lab as you make your own slimy creation. The whole family is encouraged to come in costume. (Visitors over the age of 12 are asked not to wear masks.) You'll see pumpkins fall from the highest floor of the Science Center in an amazing science demonstration, "Spooky Science Goes Splat," observe the First Quarter Moon at free telescope viewings, see Halloween-themed movies in the OMNIMAX Theater, make your own slimy creations, see an owl release, sit in on a spooky storytime, visit the Haunted Lab, explore Halloween optical illusions in the prep lab, learn science jokes for Halloween, and lots more. You can also see a special presentation exploring the Halloween sky in the James S. McDonnell Planetarium. Halloween Parade at Westport. Costumed kids ages 10 and under are invited to the annual All Hallows Eve costume parade at Westport Plaza, kicking off at 6 p.m. at the new patio near the lake. Brentwood Spooktacular. Brentwood Park and Recreation and Mid-County YMCA invite you to Spooktacular! Join us for a family-friendly fall evening in Memorial Park. Enjoy a hayride, jump in the bounce house, wear your favorite costume and pose in the photo booth, play games, enjoy treats and more. 6 to 8 p.m. Residents of Brentwood, Maplewood and Richmond Heights are $10 per family, non-residents are $15 per family when you pre-register. Halloween Spooktacular on Ice. If your kids like skating and Halloween fun, it doesn't get any cooler than this! Get the family together, put on your costumes, and come to the St. Peters Rec-Plex ice rink for the Halloween Spooktacular on Ice from 7-9 p.m. Hosted by the St. Peters Figure Skating Association, the Halloween Spooktacular on Ice includes ice skating, games, door prizes, and a costume contest. The cost is $10 for each participant and includes skate rental. Some costume restrictions apply. All participants must wear skates on the ice. Little Goblins Trick or Treat. Bring your little one for some indoor trick or treating, a spooky scavenger hunt, pumpkin decorating, games and more. Kids will also be treated to a healthy snack. Bug Ball. Step into the wonder and beauty of butterflies, insects, spiders and their other many-legged friends at the BOOterflies Ball! Your little bugaboos will be able to play games, create spook-tacular crafts and take home lots of loot after they visit the many hand-painted Treat Houses. Families can dance to Monster Jams at the Ugly Bug Ball or spy on the amazing Owl Butterfly, which are only active during dusk and dawn. Admission into the Butterfly House, activities, light refreshments, crafts, treats and goody bags are included in the event ticket price. Space is limited and reservations are required. Super Fun and Not-Too-Scary Halloween Party at the Frisco Train Store. Costumes are welcome at this not-too-scary Halloween Party complete with Halloween train cookie decorating, face painting, coloring pages and lots of candy. Boo at the Zoo Spooky Saturday. Mummies and daddies are invited to bring their little ghouls and goblins to a day of safe and free trick-or-treating at the St. Louis Zoo's Spooky Saturday. Kids will encounter surprises and goodies along the way, along with their favorite costumed characters and entertainment. Kids 12 and under should wear their Halloween costumes because there will be plenty of photo opportunities, including haystacks, pumpkins, and of course, the Zoo animals! It is a safe Halloween event all ghouls and goblins are sure to enjoy. Because Boo at the Zoo Spooky Saturday is a family-friendly event, visitors over age 13 in costume are not allowed unless they are accompanying children. Specifically, the Zoo's policy requires no adults can be wearing a mask or otherwise have their face covered with face-painting, etc. Spooky Saturday is free and begins at 9 a.m. with activities continuing throughout the afternoon. Children's Costume Party and Parade in the CWE. Kids are the star of the show during the Central West End's Children's Costume Parade and Party. The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Oct. 28 at Walton & McPherson. Children in their favorite costumes will be escorted by Cinderella and her carriage, Moolah Shriners in their YOMO cars, clowns, face painters and more. After the parade, kids can trick or treat at participating businesses throughout the Central West End until 1 p.m. A dog parade and party begins at 1 p.m. Registration is required for the dog parade only. Family Ghoulish Party and Movie Spooktacular. Put on your costumes and head over to Fireman's Park for the all new Family Ghoulish Party and Movie Spooktacular sponsored by the Wentzville Firefighters Community Outreach and Wentzville Park and Recreation. Families will enjoy games, Halloween activities, a costume contest, a hay maze and giveaways. Every pre-registered child age 14 and under will receive their own pumpkin. All who pre-register will also receive a hot dog, chips and drink. The movie The Goonies will be shown on the big screen. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. OWLoween at the World Bird Sanctuary. Head to the World Bird Sanctuary for the first-ever OWLoween celebration featuring live animal shows, a POKEHUNT, trick or treating, a costume show & parade, straw maze, games, crafts and more. This free event is for all ages. Live animal shows are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The costume show is at 2 p.m. and includes a parade. The POKEHUNT is for ages 14 and under and begins at noon ($5 per child). Ghost Stories at Jefferson Barracks. Hear spooky stories told by costumed storytellers above the bluffs of the Mississippi at Jefferson Barracks. Monsters on the Meadows Halloween Festival. Dress up your little goblins for the Monsters on the Meadows Halloween Festival at the Meadows of Lake Saint Louis. There will be pumpkin painting, trick or treating, face painting, food trucks, fire and police vehicles from the Lake St. Louis Fire & Police Department on display and lots more. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free and open to everyone. Happy Halloween Hike. Families with kids of all ages can enjoy the sunset as they hike through the prairie trail and discover not-so-scary Halloween fun. This self-guided hike has stations along the way for you to learn about the animals of Halloween, such as bats, cats, owls and more. You'll even meet an owl from the World Bird Sanctuary. Stick around to enjoy s'mores around the campfire. Costumes are welcome! 6-8 p.m. at Shaw Nature Reserve. Registration is required. Tricks & Treats on Park. The annual Tricks and Treats on Park Childrens' and Pets' Halloween Party is set for Oct. 28. Halloween Family Fun Fest. Celebrate Halloween with festive games, food trucks, trunk or treat booths, bounce houses and hayrides at this free celebration sponsored by the Crestwood Parks and Recreation Department. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Whitecliff Park in Crestwood. There is also a 1 mile fun run hosted by the Kiwanis Club that starts at 10:30 a.m. A $10 registration fee is required for the fun run only (get tickets here), but the Halloween Family Fun Fest is free. Boo at the Zoo Nights - Final Night! Explore the St. Louis Zoo after dark during special Boo at the Zoo Nights. This non-scary celebration is designed just for kids, and costumes are encouraged! Enjoy the Zoo's decorated grounds, the Haunted Hallow, the new Witchy Walk welcoming little monsters, giant webs, a haunted house with a singing witch, the Fragile Forest Fairyland, the mystery straw maze and lots more. Kids can also make Halloween-themed, creepy crafts in the Lakeside Cafe, enjoy interactive fireside stories and ride the Conservation Carousel. Visit the 4D Theater for a showing of "Happy Family 4D," a tale of a family adventure that unassumingly goes to a theme park but ends up getting transformed into mystical monsters! Children 12 and under will receive a treat bag upon exiting. Parking is free in the south lot only. Hours are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. Admission is $6 for Zoo members, $7 for non-members. Halloween Candy Exchange at The Lodge. Trade in sugary candy for healthy exercise! Bring leftover Halloween candy to The Lodge of Des Peres on Nov. 1 and receive a free youth admission in exchange for one pound of candy. You can use your pass to use the Lodge pool or gym at a later time, or if you're already a member, use it to bring a friend in the future. Child must be accompanied by an adult for the candy exchange. Limit one free youth pass per child. All candy will be donated to the USO of Missouri.
