Next up in KDHX community radio’s Musical Merry-Go-Round concert series is Springfield, Mo. “hillbilly” band Big Smith performing a special concert for kids this Sunday afternoon at Off Broadway in South City.
Big Smith has developed a devoted following throughout the region, playing raucous acoustic music that captures the spirit of their native Ozarks, including the sounds of the acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass fiddle and washboard. At Off Broadway, they will be performing songs from their family album, From Hay to Zzzzzz: Hillbilly Songs for Kids, which includes songs that have been handed down from their ancestors that can be traced back at least five generations. The double CD’s 42 tracks are conveniently arranged so the upbeat “playtime” songs come first, followed by 13 lullabies to wind things down. Visit www.bigsmithband.com to order.
What better way to spend a wintery Sunday afternoon with the kids than a hand-clapping, foot-stomping good time with music the whole family can enjoy? If you can’t make the show, tune in to 88.1 KDHX-FM on Saturday mornings beginning at 7 a.m. for the Musical Merry-Go-Round radio show with Grandfather Paul Stark as he shares two hours of family friendly music, stories and guests. You can also visit www.musicalmerrygoround.org for musician links, coloring pages, games, and more.
