7 Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for St. Louis Moms

With Mother’s Day approaching this weekend, kids, dads and adult children alike are all scrambling to find the perfect gift for Mom. Still not sure what to buy? From the practical to the sentimental to gifts that are just plain fun, we’ve rounded up 7 ideas the moms on your list are sure to love.

1. For the new mama: A membership to The Nest.

New mothers often struggle to find their footing and build connections with other moms, so with an abundance of classes and workshops geared towards moms and little ones, as well as a comfortable environment where babies are always welcome, The Nest is a perfect place for a new mama to hang out. This Mother’s Day, consider giving her the gift of a monthly membership to this family-friendly, local dining spot, so that she can get out of the house, make new friends and start to feel comfortable in her new role as “mom.”

2. For the mom who won’t splurge on herself: A Stitch Fix.

It’s no secret that moms sometimes struggle in the style department. From new mama yoga pants to middle-aged mom jeans (not to mention our grandmother’s muumuus), we moms are notorious for giving up on fashion in favor of comfort and simplicity. We want to look nice, but it’s hard to shop for ourselves and stay on top of the latest trends while raising a family too.

Enter Stitch Fix, an online personal shopping service where professional stylists send expertly selected wardrobe pieces straight to your door. Most moms won’t splurge on a service like this for themselves, but if you give us a gift certificate (which, yes, they do offer), well, we’re of course going to put it to use.

3. For the mom who loves to feel inspired: Tickets to Listen to Your Mother.

Listen to Your Mother, a series of live readings about motherhood, takes place THIS Saturday, May 10 at St. Luke’s Institute for Health Education at both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Local writers will make audiences laugh (and cry) as they share their heartwarming and powerful stories on stage. Refreshments, goodie bags and shopping are all part of the fun. Tickets can be purchased here for $15 each, so grab your Mom (and all the moms you know) and enjoy this special celebration of all things motherhood together.

4. For the mom who wants to make a difference: A gift that gives back.

Every Mother Counts – a global non-profit organization dedicated to improving the safety of pregnancy and childbirth – reports that this Mother’s Day alone, 800 women will lose their lives becoming a mother. Celebrate your mom and moms everywhere with a Mother’s Day gift purchase from one of the organization’s partner companies, who will donate a portion of the proceeds to help make motherhood safer for women around the world.

5. For the mom who loves happy hour: A trip to a Missouri winery.

Whether you head west to Augusta or Hermann or south to Sainte Genevieve, pack up the entire family and give mom the gift of a Mother’s Day filled with fresh air, sunshine and, of course, plenty of wine. You can make it an adults-only expedition, or include the kids by choosing a family-friendly winery with lots of open spaces for playing games and flying kites.

Make this gift even better by giving mom one of these coffee mugs, which reads “There’s a chance this is wine,” to use on those days when she can’t escape to an actual winery – but really wishes she could.

6. For the mom who is sentimental: Personalized artwork jewelry.

You’ll have to order this one, so it won’t arrive in time for Mother’s Day, but for the sentimental mom, it is entirely worth the wait. At this cute shop on Etsy, your children’s artwork can be turned into key chains, earrings, necklaces and more, creating a unique and totally personalized Mother’s Day gift that mom is sure to treasure forever.

7. For the mom who works too hard (and isn’t that every single one?): A day off.

Mother’s Day gifts are wonderful, but most moms – especially the ones with kids still living at home – want only one thing: a break. We honestly don’t mind if you skip the “stuff” and opt instead to let us sleep in and serve us breakfast in bed at noon. And if you can manage to allow us one full day where we get to use the bathroom in peace, well, that’s probably one of the very best gifts you can give.
