March brings a very special kind of tropical madness to the Butterfly House in Faust Park! Thousands of breathtaking Blue Morpho butterflies take up residence to welcome spring.
Native to the forests of Central and South America, the Blue Morpho's dazzling, metallic blue is all in the eye of the beholder: Their wings are not actually colored blue, but are lined with many tiny scales that only allow blue light to escape.
Throughout the month of March, visitors to the Butterfly House will learn about butterflies' critical role in nature, how they camouflage, and how we can help protect the blue morpho's native habitat.
Come inaugurate the season with these majestic creatures at the Butterfly House and immerse yourself in a sea of blue — all March long!
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays throughout the month of March. Open on two Mondays: March 16 and 23.
Activities are free with regular Butterfly House admission. Members of the Missouri Botanical Garden enjoy free admission.
